Blessing of the boats ceremony 2012
The annual Blessing of the Boats ceremony organised by the Bulloch Harbour Association takes place this Sunday (26th August 2012) at 3pm at the harbour. This popular family occasion and long-standing Dalkey tradition will feature music, BBQ food, refreshments, face-painting and a raffle with plenty of prizes.
All proceeds of this fun day will be donated to the Dun Laoghaire branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) that has hsitoric links with Bulloch Harbour over several generations.
The Dun Laoghaire RNLI station is one of 43 based in the Ireland division, operating 55 lifeboats that launched on 980 occasions and rescued 905 people in 2011. Dun Laoghaire is regularly amongst the busiest and last year launched on 37 occasions and assisted 27 people. The year to date has been busy with almost 30 calls to the end of June.
You can receive alerts directly to your own PC desktop whenever the lifeboat launches on a rescue. The RNLI has a unique 'Virtual Pager' that will tell you whenever a station's crew has received a call on their own paging system.
For operational reasons, there is a delay of several minutes between the the real pager alert and the Virtual Pager going off. We also ask you not to go to the station while an operation is in progress. Click here for more details.
